Rushcliffe Golf Club was founded in 1909 by a group of Nottingham businessmen who leased approximately 160 acres of land from Earl Howe, the then resident of nearby Kingston Hall. The clubhouse was built on 1 acre of land purchased from other sources.

The course is situated on a wooded ridge which rises above the Trent Valley giving magnificent views across the surrounding countryside and of the City of Nottingham in the distance.

In the early days of the Club, one of its great attractions was that play on a Sunday was permitted. For the benefit of golfers, few of whom had personal motorised transport, the Great Central Railway built a station, Rushcliffe Halt, next to the course.

2nd Hole

The area around the signature hole of the course, "Rushcliffe", the short 14th, is of particular interest. The site of the green and adjacent Crow Hill is traditionally believed to have been the meeting place of the Saxon Moot in the times before the Norman Conquest. The 4th hole and Crow Hill have been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest where many species of plants, including rare wild orchids, are to be found. The whole area is also home to a wide variety of animals, pheasants and hares being the most noticable.

From the white tees, the course measures just over 6,000 yards. Every hole provides its own particular challenge to players of all abilities, starting with the daunting drive at the 1st and finishing with a steep climb from tee to green at the 18th. In between, the undulating fairways and several elevated tees combine to present a very attractive layout much admired by members and visitors alike. Often, however, it is the early holes that are the key to a good score.

14th Green

The clubhouse, extended and refurbished in 1994, includes the Professional's shop in addition to some tremendous facilities. The spacious and comfortable lounge, which overlooks part of the course, has an unrivalled view, probably at its best when watching the sun set behind the distant treeline on a warm summers evening.
